Everyone was HOT today.. Chucky made himself a canopy bed, Sunny D laid in the dirt, Obsidian didnβt stick around long and Flint wanted to sit on my lap. Freddy just looked angry and tired.. but we got a lot of stuff done outside and we didnβt get any more rain, thank goodness. π§οΈ
Two years ago, the first thing I grew in my aero garden was coleus. I put them in two big pots outside and they grew so huge!! I brought them inside for the winter and they came back last spring. Last winter, they were in the little greenhouse when the top blew off and it got so cold, they didnβt make it. π Once it started to warm up, I started seeing little babies in all my other pots.. the ones that died planted their seeds everywhere before they left! These are a few of their babies. Now theyβre blooming and making seeds of their own. β€οΈππ
Some people call them invasive weeds.. but I call morning glories beautiful garden flowers. I get to see them bloom for just part of a day but I love them. This is what the Bible tells us about morning glories:
God tells Moses and Aaron “in the morning, you shall see the glory of the LORD” (Exodus 16:7). What does the glory of the LORD look like? “Like a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the groundβ (Exodus 16:14).
I have these blooming down by the road! π Partridge Pea is an annual and a legume so it fixes soil nitrogen and forms attractive maroon seed pods in the fall. π This wildflower attracts bees and butterflies and the seed pods are eaten by gamebirds and songbirds. The plant provides excellent cover for gamebirds and browse for deer. Leaves collapse when touched, earning it the common name Sensitive-plant.
I didnβt plant this dotted smartweedβ¦ it came up in one of my flower pots on its own.. but I read about it and decided to let it stay. π Dotted smartweed (Persicaria punctata) is a wetland plant important to many different kinds of native wildlife. Its nectar attracts bees and beetles, and insect larvae feed on its leaves. Also, small birds and mammals find the seeds very tasty. π
